What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, leads the way in skin rejuvenation. The purpose of the treatment is to generate new collagen and skin tissue for smoother, firmer, more toned skin. This treatment carries no risk or downtime. It is a procedure using an automated pen device, which is passed across the surface of the skin creating superficial punctures that stimulate a healing response.
Microneedling creates minute channels in the skin using a cartidge of sterile needles. Active ingredients can then reach the dermis - absorption of the ingredients increases by up to 300%.
The benefits of Microneedling are:
- Induces collagen and elastin production
- Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improves scarring (including acne, surgical and chicken pox
- Firms and tightens the skin
- Improves pigmentation and sun damage
- Promotes natural healing
- Improves uneven texture and tone
- Enhances the skins ability to absorb products and serums
- Improves hair growth
- Suitable for all skin types
- Rapid healing with minimal downtime
For the best result, a course of 3 treatments at 4 weekly intervals is recommended.
How does Microneedling work?
Tiny serile needles with a depth of 0.5mm and above penetrate the skin creating microscoping traumas which immediate create an inflammatory or wound healing response within the skin. This helps stimulate collagen and elastin, boosting skin regeneration so the complexion appears smoother, brighter, firmer and healthy looking. During Microneedling collagen is induced when the needles pass through the epidermis to the dermis stimulation fibroblast activity. Over a period of several months new collagen and elastic matrix is laid down. This new matrix thickens and improves the skins texture. While new collagen is created, ols collagen is broken down, which is why Microneedling performs well on scars and stetch marks, as new collagen isn't as effective as treating these alone.
Does it hurt?
It doesn't hurt, but it is a little uncomfortable. The forehead, hairline and jawline can be more sensitive than other areas. Following the treatment there is no significant downtime, most people leave a little red, but the redness will fade. Within 24 hours you can resume your usual face care routine. Your skin will feel soft and visible differences can be noticed including pore size reduction. Some tightness can be experienced but applying hydrating serum and moisturiser can ease this, product absorption increases, and topical products feel deeply penetrating.
